The short answer
If you race a variety of cars, or you're buying your first rig, choose a GT chassis. It's the most versatile layout. If you mainly drive F1 and other single-seaters and want the most authentic feel, choose a formula chassis.
What's the difference?
GT chassis put you in an upright seating position like a road car or GT3 car. Your pedals sit lower and the wheel is further from your chest.
Formula chassis put you in a reclined, legs-forward position like a real open-wheel car. Your pedals are raised and the wheel sits close to your chest.
Both types we stock are built from aluminum profile, so they're rigid enough for direct drive wheelbases and load cell pedals, and you can adjust them to fit you.
Choose a GT chassis if…
- You drive GT, touring, road, rally or a mix of everything
- It's your first proper rig
- You want to use the rig for other games too
- You want the easiest seat to get in and out of
Our range runs from the entry Advanced SimRacing ASR 1 through the ASR 3 and ASR 4 to the Pro GT, plus Sim-Lab's GT1 EVO, GT1 PRO, P1X Pro and P1X Ultimate. Shop GT chassis.
Choose a formula chassis if…
- You mostly drive F1 and other single-seaters
- Immersion is the priority and you're happy to be more specialised
- You plan to pair it with a formula steering wheel
We stock the Advanced SimRacing F-Aero and F-Pro, and the officially licensed Sim-Lab Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS Formula One Team cockpit. Shop formula chassis.
Other things to consider
Your space. Measure the floor area before you buy, including room to get in and out and for your monitors. A formula position stretches your legs further forward.
Your wheelbase. Check that the chassis supports your wheelbase's mounting style (front mount or side mount). Several ASR chassis offer specific mounting options for Simucube, Asetek and Fanatec bases.
Monitors. Decide early between a rig-mounted stand and a freestanding one. Freestanding stands keep vibration off your screens. Shop monitor stands.
Seat. On a GT rig, you'll choose a seat separately. A bucket seat holds you firmly under braking, and a recliner is comfier for long sessions. Shop seats.
